A sectional view must not have any full lines drawn over hatched areas. As a general rule, dimensions are NOT inserted in hatched areas.

These standard parts include solid shafts, bolts and nuts, washers, ribs and spokes of wheels, and webs.

Notice that the visible background shapes without hidden lines, appear in each sectional view. To avoid a false impression of thickness and solidity, ribs, webs, gear teeth, and other similar flat features are not sectioned, even though the cutting plane passes along the center plane of the feature.
