Saugers are the toothy, tasty relatives of walleyes. Each fall, as water temperatures fall into the 50s, they start moving upstream until dams along the Ohio River, at Kentucky Lake, Lake Barkley or Lake Cumberland stop them.
When can you catch Sauger fish?
Sauger is a popular fish that can be targeted all-year-round. Depending on where you live, you can go after them ice fishing during winter months or especially during spring in the southern regions.
Where can I find Sauger?
Saugers are often plentiful in dirty rivers, or in deep, dark holes immediately below dams on large rivers like the Missouri or Mississippi. Where the water is clearer and shallower, not so much.
