When a message is being read via Outlook on the Web (OWA) or via EAS on a smartphone or tablet, the recall will not work. ... When it got moved via a rule, recalling the message is not possible. The original message must still be unread and the recipient must open the Recall message before the original message.
Does recalling an email work?
If a recipient opens your Email before you have a chance to Recall it, then the Recall will not work. The recipient will still get the recall message that you have requested that it be recalled, but it will stay in their Inbox since it is now a “read message”.
How do I know if my email recall was successful?
Whether the recall is successful or not depends on which e-mail is opened first:
- If the recipient opens the message about the recall first, the original message will be deleted, meaning the recall was a success.
- If the recipient opens the original e-mail first, the recall will be unsuccessful.
