Angiography is used to check the health of your blood vessels and how blood flows through them. It can help to diagnose or investigate several problems affecting blood vessels, including: atherosclerosis – narrowing of the arteries, which could mean you're at risk of having a stroke or heart attack.
Why angiography is needed?
Why do we do an angiogram? When blood vessels are blocked, damaged or abnormal in any way, chest pain, heart attack, stroke, or other problems may occur. Angiography helps your physician determine the source of the problem and the extent of damage to the blood vessel segments that are being examined.
What can an angiography detect?
Angiograms are very good at detecting problems with the blood vessels such as an aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation (AVM), arterial stenosis from plaque build-up, tumors, and clots (Fig. 3).
