Almost all extant arachnids are terrestrial, living mainly on land. However, some inhabit freshwater environments and, with the exception of the pelagic zone, marine environments as well. They comprise over 100,000 named species.
Where are arachnids located?
Almost anywhere one travels on Earth, some type of arachnid can be found. From deserts to tropical rainforests to deep-sea hydrothermal vents, if you look closely enough, you are bound to find a member of the Arachnida. Spiders have even been collected ballooning through the stratosphere!
