By design or by age, most of our facilities on campus do not have air conditioning and UBC has made recent significant changes to how we deliver heat to almost every building on campus. If you are new to your building, ask someone who has worked there for a few years if the temperature you are experiencing is normal.

Do dorms have air conditioning?

Most commonly, dorm rooms do not have air conditioning. It is too big an expense, and running the AC, along with maintenance, just isn't feasible. Some colleges will have AC for main student areas in the dorms, but when it comes to your actual room, the chances of having air conditioning are low.

What is the best residence at UBC?

Place Vanier is the oldest yet the friendliest residence on campus. Although Vanier's utilities are not as good as Orchard's, it's a great place to make friends. You will enjoy the good vibes from the Place Vanier community and can easily find people to hang out, eat, and study with.
