Cantrips are spells. “Cantrip” is short for “0 level spell” in the D&D rules. For more infornation, check out chapter 10 of the Player's Handbook.
Is a cantrip considered a spell 5e?

There are certain class features that require a spell, or a spell slot, of level 1 or above (The Life Cleric's Blessed Healer feature for instance) and as such cantrips would not qualify for these. For all other spell casting features, they would qualify.

Cantrips. A cantrip is a spell that can be cast at will, without using a spell slot and without being prepared in advance. Repeated practice has fixed the spell in the caster's mind and infused the caster with the magic needed to produce the Effect over and over. A cantrip's Spell Level is 0.
