Climatology is the study of climate and how it changes over time. This science helps people better understand the atmospheric conditions that cause weather patterns and temperature changes over time.
When was climatology invented?
Voeikov, Köppen, and Hann studied the general circulation and, with the scientists of the Smithsonian and other organizations, created the classic period of climatology that occurred during the middle third of the century from about 1855 to 1885 (Leighly, 1949a).
When did the idea of climate change start?
In 1896, a seminal paper by Swedish scientist Svante Arrhenius first predicted that changes in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels could substantially alter the surface temperature through the greenhouse effect. In 1938, Guy Callendar connected carbon dioxide increases in Earth's atmosphere to global warming.
