Like other rheumatic diseases, myositis is unlikely to go away on its own. But with proper treatment and management these chronic diseases can be brought under control. At present there is no cure for myositis.
How long does myositis last?
Types of myositis
Polymyositis, which affects many different muscles, particularly the shoulders, hips and thigh muscles. It's more common in women and tends to affect people aged 30 to 60. Dermatomyositis, which affects several muscles and causes a rash.
Can muscles recover from myositis?
People with myositis can make a good recovery. However, some people with severe symptoms may never fully recover. Even for people who do make a good recovery it can take several months to see improvement, as treatments take time to help your body repair muscles.
