Tolerance is NOT a value of relativism. Perhaps I should say it this way: if you are a relativist, you certainly do not need to be tolerant of other people. Or rather, if you are a relativist, it is not inconsistent with your relativism to be intolerant of those who disagree with you.
How does moral relativism relate to tolerance?
Tolerance requires that we respect other societies' moral beliefs and practices. Relativism maintains that we cannot judge one society's moral standard as better or worse than another's since each is equally right for its own society.
Which value does ethical relativism promote?
Ethical relativism is the theory that holds that morality is relative to the norms of one's culture. That is, whether an action is right or wrong depends on the moral norms of the society in which it is practiced. The same action may be morally right in one society but be morally wrong in another.
