The Japanese-language equivalent of "Wowee" is "Manmenmi" (マンメンミ, what "Gung-we-wy" sounds like in Japanese), which is also based on a quote by the Inkling girl. She usually says this after defeating a boss or when saying "Boo-yah!".

Can Inklings touch water?

While the Salmonids can swim within water and move on land, the Inklings, Octarians, and Octolings (which were derived from squids and octopuses) will dissolve if they touch water because their fragile bodies consist of Ink, which also allows them to swim within Ink.

What language do the Inklings speak?

In the Japanese versions of both Splatoon games, Inklings talk in hiragana, and Octarians in katakana (along with a brainwashed Callie and Marina, occasionally; detailed in The Art of Splatoon 2). In Japanese media, a character's dialogue being written with katakana can also imply a foreign accent of some sort.
