Lantana tolerates very light frost, but if temperatures drop down to 28 F or below, the plants will die back to the ground. Within the hardiness zones 8 through 11, lantana will come back the following spring from the roots.
How do you bring lantana back to life?
To encourage reblooming, cut the tips (deadhead) periodically. Overgrown plants can be given new life by cutting back a third of their growth. They will bounce back quickly. Regular pruning of the plant usually takes place in spring.
How do you winterize lantana?
The first step toward winter care for lantanas is to cut back on water (to about ½ inch (1.5 cm.) per week) and stop fertilizing the plants in late summer. Do this about six weeks before you expect the first frost of the year. Position the lantana containers indoors in an unheated room or garage.
