Simply put, denier is the weight of the fabric that your hosiery is made from. If you have a pair of tights that are heavier and thicker to the touch, they'll be a higher denier. Fine tights that are more fragile will be a lower denier.
Is higher or lower denier better?
Generally speaking, the higher the denier count, the more durable the material will be. This is due to the thicker threads used to make up the material. So, if you're looking for something that is durable and can withstand outdoor wear and tear, you want to go with the highest denier material possible.
Is 40 denier thick?
40 denier. A nice thick pair of tights gives a nod to the 60s when paired with A-line mini skirts and pointy flat shoes. They also look stylish with a splash of colour, such as a candyfloss pink coat or checked dress. Forty denier are much sturdier than sheer tights and will last long if you take good care of them.
