'The limbs' describes the anatomy of the upper limb—divided into the arm between shoulder and elbow; the forearm between elbow and wrist; and the hand below the wrist—and the lower limb, which is divided into the thigh between hip and knee; the leg between knee and ankle; and the foot below the ankle.

Where is the upper limbs located?

The upper limb is divided into three regions. These consist of the arm, located between the shoulder and elbow joints; the forearm, which is between the elbow and wrist joints; and the hand, which is located distal to the wrist.

Where is the lower limb located?

For anatomists, the lower limb consists of the thigh (the upper leg), the leg (the lower leg), and the foot. The thigh consists of a single bone, the femur. The leg consists of two long bones, the tibia and fibula, and the sesamoid bone, the patella, that serves as the knee cap.
