Does Hairspray Ever Expire?

Does Hairspray Ever Expire?

Unopened hairspray will last on average for approximately 3 years. However, once you use the spray cans (aerosol canister) or break the seal on the spray nozzle, the product's expiration date should be reduced to approximately 18 months (or less).

What can you do with old hairspray?

If you can feel liquid moving around inside the can or hairspray still comes out of the nozzle, it's best to donate the can to someone who can use the remaining hairspray. If you can't donate the product, take the can to a special recycling facility that can safely puncture the can and remove its contents.

When should you throw out hair products?

Hair products will eventually expire, although the FDA doesn't require hair product manufacturers to include a traditional expiration date. Our general rule is to throw away an unopened hair product after 36 months. Once the product has been opened, we recommend throwing it away within 12 months.
