At mid-range tides the volume of sea water moving around lies somewhere between springs and neaps. To determine the mid-range tidal stream we must first consult the tide tables for that particular day at determine if we are experiencing mid-range tides.
What are mid tides?
noun. The tide midway between high tide and low tide; the time of this; the level or height midway between high- and low-water marks.
How do you calculate mid-range tide?
We have written both the spring and neaps rate because we are dealing with a midrange and need to calculate the midrange between the spring and neap mean tide ranges. HW-3 midrange = 2.4 – 1.3 = 1.1. Half the difference 1.1 ÷ 2 = 0.55 knots. So the mid-range is either 2.4 – 0.55 = 1.85 or 1.3 + 0.55 = 1.85.
