What Is a Floating Floor?

A floating floor is a floor that does not need to be nailed or glued to the subfloor. The term floating floor refers to the installation method, but is often used synonymously with laminate flooring. It is applied now to other coverings such as floating tile systems and vinyl flooring in a domestic context.

What is the advantage of a floating floor?

Most floating floors are eco-friendly, simply because it uses less wood and some are made of entirely eco-friendly materials. It can also be easily placed over existing flooring or a variety of different materials and is highly flexible.

Why floating floors are bad?

Warping. Most often caused by moisture and water damage, warping can make floors uneven and ultimately may be difficult and expensive to fix. The warping and buckling will force individual floor boards to curve up and down, making the floor more likely to develop a mold or mildew problem.
