Should Celery Be Limp?

Should Celery Be Limp?

Limp celery is fine to eat as long as it's not showing other sings of spoilage, such as whitened color or foul smell. It's sensitive to cold and can go limp if stored in too cold of temperatures, like in the bottom drawer of the fridge that's closest to the freezer. Limp celery will have lost its crispy crunch.

How can you tell when celery is bad?

You can usually tell by looking or feeling if celery is going bad. Firm light green stalks are the best. Some common traits of celery going bad are when the stalks begin to spread out from the bunch as they become soft and bendable. Old celery is also more whitish in color and becomes hollow in the middle.

What do you do with limp celery?

We find that for celery in a dire, limp condition, cutting the leaves and roots off and shocking them entirely works better and faster. If it's just not happening, you can use your celery for a mirepoix or as the base of a stir-fry or soup.
