Worms are cold-blooded animals. Earthworms have the ability to replace or replicate lost segments. This ability varies greatly depending on the species of worm you have, the amount of damage to the worm and where it is cut.
Do earthworms like warm or cold?
When temperatures fall below 0°C and water in the soil freezes many earthworms simply burrow into deeper layers where they can survive but surface-feeding earthworms instead rely on chemical defences to tolerate cold temperatures.
Can earthworms survive in hot water?
"It was like they were having a little conference" in the hotter water. The worms survived for as long as seven hours at 122 degrees F (50 degrees C), and would spend as long as 15 minutes at 131 degrees F (55 degrees C). Water of 140 degrees F (60 degrees C) killed them.
