In patients with mild or micro-ptosis, corrective surgery might not be indicated but cosmetic improvement might be desired. In such cases, botulinum toxin application to the pre-tarsal orbicularis oculi muscle might be a suitable option for the management of small eyelid margin asymmetries.
How does Botox fix eyelid ptosis?
Botox is a temporary treatment. The treatment can last three to seven months, but the droopy eyelids will typically go away in four to six weeks. Apart from waiting, a couple of treatments might alleviate the problem: eyedrops, such as apraclonidine (Iopidine), which can help if the eyelids are drooping, not the brows.
Can you fix ptosis without surgery?
Congenital ptosis will not get better without surgery. However, early correction will help the child to develop normal vision in both eyes. Some acquired ptosis that is caused by nerve problems will improve without treatment.
