Signs and Symptoms
High blood pressure is often the only sign of hyperaldosteronism. The hypertension is usually hard to control and patients are often on 4 or more blood pressure medications. The hypertension may cause headaches, blurred vision, and dizziness.
What are the signs and symptoms of hyperaldosteronism?
Hyperaldosteronism can lower potassium levels in the body, which can cause the following symptoms:
- Weakness.
- Tingling feelings.
- Muscle spasms.
- Temporary paralysis.
- Extreme thirst.
- Frequent urination (having to urinate often)
What are the effects of hyperaldosteronism?
Primary hyperaldosteronism can cause very high blood pressure, which can damage many organs, including the eyes, kidneys, heart and brain. Erection problems and gynecomastia (enlarged breasts in men) may occur with long-term use of medicines to block the effect of hyperaldosteronism.
