ravinement surface In sequence stratigraphy, the first surface to have been formed by flooding due to rising sea level, at or close to the shoreline. A Dictionary of Earth Sciences. "ravinement surface ."
What is ravinement?
[rə′vēn·mənt] (geology) The formation of a ravine or ravines. An irregular junction which marks a break in sedimentation, such as an erosion line occurring where shallow-water marine deposits have cut down into slightly eroded underlying beds.
How do you find the maximum flooding surface?
The maximum flooding surface is the physical boundary between the transgressive system tract (TSTtrue stratigraphic thickness, transgressive systems tract) and the highstand systems tract (HSThighstand systems tract). In basinward positions, it is contained within the condensed section.
