Instagram Reels is launching today (Aug. 5) in over 50 countries, including the U.S., India, France, Germany, Japan, Australia and the U.K. The wide debut comes after Facebook-owned Instagram has been testing Reels in Brazil for the past nine months.

When did reels start?

Reels was introduced in India within weeks of the government banning 59 mobile apps with Chinese links, including the popular short video platform TikTok terming these apps as prejudicial to sovereignty of the country, on June 29.

When did Instagram reels come out in USA?

In July 2020, Instagram rolled out Reels to India after TikTok was banned in the country. The following month, Reels officially launched in 50 countries including the United States, Canada and United Kingdom. Instagram has recently introduced a reel button on home page.
