As its name suggests, the Vietnamese mossy frog lives in Vietnam; specifically in northern Vietnam, a region defined by limestone cliffs and evergreen rainforests. Vietnamese mossy frogs are found in flooded caves and in the banks of rocky mountain streams at elevations of 2,300 to 3,280 feet (700 to 1,000 meters).

Are mossy frogs rare?

This species is fairly uncommon in the hobby, and actual longevity expectations are varied. I spoke with a zookeeper that implied their mossy frogs were over 15 years old!

Can you keep Vietnamese mossy frogs as pets?

Their coloration and bumpy dermis give the appearance of a patch of moss, making them a great display pet. Keeping one in captivity, however, is not recommended for beginners unless ample research is conducted before buying. Caring for a Vietnamese mossy frog requires daily attention and the proper cage setup.
