Both Sure Start and Head Start:
Provide no-cost, nutritious lunches and snacks. Encourage family involvement. Cater to students' ages, individual needs and cultures in environment, curriculum, materials, routines and daily activities. Follow a full-day program.
How much did Sure Start cost?
At its peak in 2009–10, Sure Start accounted for £1.8 billion of public spending (in 2018–19 prices), about a third of overall spending on programmes for the under-5s.
Are Sure Start Centres free?
Any family can access a children's centre for free advice, support or to take part in activities as long as they have a child who is aged 0-5 years. All children's centres are open at least 5 days a week.
