This is stored in the rectum, the lower part of the large intestine, until we are ready to go to the toilet. It then comes out of the rectum through the anus as faeces. This process is called egestion .
Where do most digestions take place?
The majority of chemical digestion occurs in the small intestine. Digested chyme from the stomach passes through the pylorus and into the duodenum.
What happens during the Egestion process?
Egestion in animals
In humans and other higher forms of animals, the egestion process entails waves of muscular contractions of the colonic walls, moving the fecal matter towards the rectum. The fecal matter is temporarily stored in the rectum ampulla. As the fecal matter accumulates, the rectal walls expand.
