Colossal Cave is a large cave system in southeastern Arizona, United States, near the community of Vail, about 22 miles southeast of Tucson. It contains about 3.5 miles of mapped passageways. Temperatures inside average 70 °F year-round. Previous names include 'Mountain Springs Cave' and 'Five–Mile Cave'.

Colossal Cave is a dead cave (dry). It is dry and the rooms are much smaller than Kartchner. They take you through and tell interesting stories of all of the supposed goings-on of the past in the cave (hideout for bandits etc.) They do not give you as much of a geological background as they give you history.

The cave was officially "discovered" in 1879, but artifacts and soot-blackened ceilings testify to use by prehistoric cultures. Recent studies show it once served as a Hohokam shrine. Today visitors take a fifty-minute, one-half mile guided tour down six stories into Colossal Cave to see the beautiful formations.
