Calculating Baumé Degrees from Specific Gravity
The ethanol is 49.5 degrees Baumé. If the liquid is more dense than water: Divide 145 by the specific gravity, then subtract the result from 145.
How is Baume measured?
Baumé, pronounced Boh-May, & Brix are units of measurement for the amount of sugar in grape juice and fermenting wine. 1°Bé = 1.8°Brix = 18 grams per litre sugar. Depending on the efficiency of the yeast in converting sugar to alcohol 1°Bé will produce 1-1.1% alcohol.
What does 20 degree Baume mean?
A 20 degree baume solution of muriatic acid. This is equivalent to approximately 31.5% hydrochloric acid.
