Simplifying Decimals
Some problems may ask you to convert decimals into a fraction in simplest form. This is also called receding a fraction to lowest terms. To do this, divide the numerator and denominator by their greatest common factor.
Can a simplified fraction have a decimal?
Divide both the numerator and denominator by the largest number that divides evenly into both to simplify the fraction. In the example, divide 2 by 2, which equals 1, and divide 20 by 2, which equals 10. This leaves 1/10, which is the simplified form of the fraction with a decimal.
Is simplest form fraction or decimal?
The simplest form is the smallest possible equivalent fraction of the number.
