Alert: Don't accept unexpected offers of financial aid or help (such as a “pandemic grant” or “Biden loan forgiveness”) without checking with your school to see if the offer is legit. Learn how to avoid scams. A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid, except under certain circumstances.
What does a grant pay for?
Provides grant funds to help pay for your tuition, student fees and other educational costs in a for- credit instructional program of not less than one academic year in length. Pays up to $1,656 per academic year for access costs such as living expenses, transportation, supplies and books.
Can I spend my grant money on anything?
They can be used for more than just tuition
While many people assume that Pell Grants are just for paying tuition, the funds can be used for much more. Any school-related costs, from room and board, to a new laptop, to travel expenses to and from school can be covered with Pell Grant funds.
