How Big Are Bantam Eggs?

What is a bantam egg? The Bantam egg is the small egg laid by bantam or true bantam chickens. They vary in size from the tiny 1 oz eggs of the true bantams to the 2 oz eggs from my Light Sussex bantams.

Do bantams lay normal size eggs?

Bantam eggs are, of course, smaller than standard eggs, roughly half the size of standard eggs. The ratio for using them in cooking is 3 bantam eggs for every 2 standard eggs. Bantams tend to get a bad rap for laying.

How many bantam eggs equal large egg?

In general, substitute two bantam eggs for one large egg in recipes to err on the side of caution. One large egg equals about 1/4 cup. Two bantam chicken eggs seem to fit that quantity pretty consistently. After experimenting, that rule of thumb holds up well for cookies, pastry crusts and muffins.
