As we can see below, DDR5 promises improvements on DDR4 in the key areas which affect gaming and workstation users i.e.: memory capacity, speed, and also power efficiency. As we will discuss though, much of these improvements will not have much of an impact for desktop computers for some time.
Will DDR5 ram make a difference?
DDR5 RAM contains several advantages over the previous generation. Mostly, these improvements come in the areas of speed, performance, latency, and power management.
How much of a difference will DDR5 make?
DDR5 Scales to 8.4 Gbps
While DDR4 DIMMs top out at 3.2 gigabits per second (Gbps) at a clock rate of 1.6 gigahertz (GHz), initial DDR5 will deliver a 50% bandwidth increase to 4.8 Gbps. DDR5 memory will ultimately scale to a data rate of 8.4 Gbps.
