Does Polymorph Change Creature Type?

Polymorph spells do not change your type.
Normally it is assumed it changes your creature type, but polymorph spells and effects usually list things that do change while under that effect, like gaining new abilities or losing some, but creature type is never listed under those changes.

Can you use polymorph to turn into a dragon?

Polymorph can't turn creatures into dragons, only beasts

The new form can be any beast whose challenge rating is equal to or less than the target's (or the target's level, if it doesn't have a challenge rating).

What is the strongest thing you can polymorph into?

While True Polymorph allows any creature, Polymorph only allows beasts, so this section will analyze available beast forms. Unfortunately, the highest CR beast is currently the Tyrannosaurus Rex at CR 8. There is no “best” form; every problem requires a different tool.
