When Transpiration Occurs
Transpiration occurs during photosynthesis when the stomata open for the passage of carbon dioxide gas. Carbon dioxide is a necessary component of photosynthesis that the plant must get from their environment. Water transported to the leaves is converted to a gas.
When and where does transpiration take place?
Transpiration occurs through the stomatal apertures, and can be thought of as a necessary "cost" associated with the opening of the stomata to allow the diffusion of carbon dioxide gas from the air for photosynthesis.
Does transpiration occur at night?
Transpiration does not take place at night, because the stomata present on the leaf surface are closed during the night hours.
