Does Sand Have Cells?

Does Sand Have Cells?

In general, we would say that sand is not made up of cells. For the most part, sand is made up of ground up particles of rocks and minerals. As ground up particles of rocks and minerals are not made up of cells, it logically follows that sand is not made up of cells.

How many cells are in sand?

Each sand grain is populated by 1.2 × 104–1.1 × 105 cells (according to Eq. I; grain size 202–635 μm).

What is sand made out of?

Sand is typically made mostly of varying amounts of material weathered from inland rocks (or seacliff material) and transported to the beach on the wind or in rivers, and/or shells and other hard parts precipitated out of the ocean water by marine organisms. Sand therefore records processes at a variety of timescales.
