Was Given or Gave?

Was Given or Gave?

Both are correct, and it will depend on location which form is more commonly used. (I would consider had given to be the correct answer but gave would be ok.) kept is the imperfect form of keep, gave is the imperfect form of give and had given is the perfect form [of give].

Is give or was given?

Take a look at the following examples. Giving is a present tense of give whereas given is the past participle of give.

Can we use was given?

"Was given" strongly implies consent (although in some contexts it can refer to "divine providence", i.e. "God gave me the opportunity"). So if you want to be clear that he agreed to have his picture taken, you would use "was given". If you actually took the picture without consent you would say "got".
