Mount Soledad, also known as Soledad Mountain, is a prominent landmark in the city of San Diego, California, United States. The mountaintop is the site of the Mount Soledad Cross, the subject of a 25-year controversy over the involvement of religion in government which concluded in 2016.
Why was Mount Soledad built?
Soledad in 1934 and rebuilt in 1954 was specifically intended for Easter sunrise services, and for years maps identified the site as the Mt. Soledad Easter Cross.
When was Mt Soledad built?
Soledad Memorial was founded. Originally owned by the federal government, Mount Soledad was given to the City of San Diego in 1874. The park itself was officially designated in 1916.
