Ulva intestinalis is a green alga in the family Ulvaceae, known by the common names sea lettuce, gutweed and grass kelp. Until they were reclassified by genetic work completed in the early 2000s, the tubular members of the sea lettuce genus Ulva were placed in the genus Enteromorpha.
How to clean Gutweed?
Sprinkle it on salads, sushi or finished dishes like seasoning. The main challenge is in removing sand and grit from its tubes – wash thoroughly, then squeeze out excess moisture – especially if you plan to deep fry it.
Can you eat Gutweed?
Irish Gutweed makes the perfect addition to soups, chowders, stir fries and stews. It also makes a delicious, crispy snack when deep fried. Simply add to your favourite dishes.
