Placing the troche in the mouth in the morning when the patient is distracted by being busy, or snaking. If the troche does not have a good amount of time to dissolve, the patient will unconsciously swallow the saliva before it has had a chance to fully absorb into the membranes of the mouth.
How long does it take for troches to work?
The goal is to have the hormone enter your system through your oral mucosa (skin) rather than being swallowed. It usually takes about 10-15 min for the troche to dissolve and 30 min for a dose to be fully absorbed.
Are troches effective?
Topical treatments can sometimes provide limited and unpredictable absorption. Troches are an effective alternative to a variety of medication forms. Patients that require rapid symptomatic relief can use troches due to the fast-acting absorption and onset of effects.
