Do chicken hens make a lot of noise?

Hens make a lot of sounds, but most of them are quiet and gentle. The only time they get really loud are when they have laid an egg. It's not known why many hens 'shout about it' after laying - but this is the 'classic' chicken sound someone makes when they want to impersonate a chicken!

Are chicken coops noisy?

The good news is that most backyard hens are relatively quiet – more so than the dog that you neighbor might already have – most of the time. Hens (the female, of course) can make greater amounts of noise early in the morning when they are looking to get out of their coops, and again when they have laid an egg.
