Does Flywheel Go Bad?

Does Flywheel Go Bad?

Unfortunately, flywheels do not last forever. They gradually become worn as they are consistently used in the vehicle. If your flywheel becomes too worn out or damaged, there will be some noticeable symptoms that you won't be able to ignore.

How do I know if my flywheel is bad?

Symptoms of a bad flywheel
  1. Abnormal noise when starter motor is engaged.
  2. Rattling noise when depressing or releasing clutch.
  3. The clutch "grabs" when engaging.
  4. Car slips out of gear, going into neutral or another gear.
  5. Shaking or vibration felt through the clutch pedal or floor of the vehicle.
  6. Burning smell from clutch.

Does a flywheel wear out?

Your flywheel should last for anywhere from 80,000 to 100,000 miles in most cases, if not more often. But since your flywheel is so closely connected to your car's clutch, you might have to replace it more often than that if you ever have any clutch issues.
