A rash around the stoma that is red, or red with bumps – this may be due to a skin infection or sensitivity, or even leakage. Wart-like, pimple-like or blister-like bumps under the skin barrier – this type of irritation can happen any time, even if you've used the same product for months or years.
Is it normal for stoma to be red?
Redness on the skin around the stoma can be from several sources. Some of the more common reasons can include irritation from stool, sensitivity/allergy to the products you are using, or yeast.
What color should a stoma be?
A normal stoma is moist and pink or red colored. When you first see your colostomy, it may appear dark red and swollen, with bruises. Don't worry. Within a few weeks, the color will lighten and bruises should disappear.
