Adult terrapins mate in early spring. Females lay clutches of 8-12 eggs from early June into mid-July in sandy beaches and other upland gravel areas that are above the high tide line. The eggs hatch in 61-104 days. The warmer the soil, the faster they hatch.
How long do terrapin eggs take to hatch?
Eggs hatch in 60 to 100 days. Like most turtle species, temperature determines the gender of the hatchlings: the warmer the nest, the more female terrapins develop. If hatchlings do not emerge by the onset of cold weather, they may overwinter in the sand and hatch the following spring.
How long is a terrapin pregnant?
Being an aquatic amphibian, yes, terrapin turtles do lay eggs. Bar a few exceptions, nearly all reptiles lay eggs which they have to tend to; this will ensure the eggs hatch after the gestation period. Eggs tend to hatch in around 60 days and female terrapins lay anywhere between four to 10 eggs.
