How to Approximation Maths?

What is approximation?
  1. To approximate to the nearest ten, look at the digit in the tens column.
  2. To approximate to the nearest hundred, look at the digit in the hundreds column.
  3. For the nearest thousand, look at the digit in the thousands column.

What is an example of approximation in math?

Not exact, but close enough to be used. Examples: the cord measures 2.91, and you round it to "3", as that is good enough. the bus ride takes 57 minutes, and you say it is "a one hour bus ride".

What is the rule of approximation?

If the number you are rounding is followed by 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9, round the number up. Example: 38 rounded to the nearest ten is 40. If the number you are rounding is followed by 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4, round the number down. Example: 33 rounded to the nearest ten is 30.
