Ulcerative colitis can be debilitating and can sometimes lead to life-threatening complications. While it has no known cure, treatment can greatly reduce signs and symptoms of the disease and bring about long-term remission.
Can ulcerative colitis be cured permanently?
Inflammation in ulcerative colitis starts in the rectum and may spread to the colon. Symptoms may be constant or may come and go. They include diarrhea, weight loss, abdominal cramping, anemia, and blood or pus in bowel movements. There's no cure for ulcerative colitis.
Can ulcerative colitis go away on its own?
Ulcerative colitis tends to be a progressive condition that does not get better on its own. Without treatment, symptoms may persist and get worse, and inflammation may spread within the colon.
