When Correlation Is Causation?

When Correlation Is Causation?

A correlation between variables, however, does not automatically mean that the change in one variable is the cause of the change in the values of the other variable. Causation indicates that one event is the result of the occurrence of the other event; i.e. there is a causal relationship between the two events.

How do you know if correlation is causation?

Criteria for Causality
  1. Strength: A relationship is more likely to be causal if the correlation coefficient is large and statistically significant.
  2. Consistency: A relationship is more likely to be causal if it can be replicated.

When can you say correlation is causation?

When 2 unrelated things tied together, so these can be either bound by causality or correlation. In Majority of the cases correlation, are just because of the coincidences. Just because it seems like one factor is influencing the other, it doesn't mean that it's actually does.
