How Does a Newton Meter Work?

Forces can be measured using a force meter, also called a newton meter. Force meters contain a spring connected to a metal hook. The spring stretches when a force is applied to the hook. The bigger the force applied, the longer the spring stretches and the bigger the reading.

What does a Newton Metre do?

The newton-metre (also newton metre or newton meter; symbol N⋅m or N m) is a unit of torque (also called moment) in the SI system. One newton-metre is equal to the torque resulting from a force of one newton applied perpendicularly to the end of a moment arm that is one metre long.

Why does a newton meter never reach 0?

(i) Draw, on Diagram 2, the magnetic field pattern between the two facing poles. (ii) The magnets in the magnetic closure box must not have two North poles facing each other. (ii) No matter how many sheets of paper the student puts between the magnets, the force shown on the newtonmeter never reaches zero.
